Questions about managed hosting
What is managed hosting?
Hosting where someone looks after the server for you. With HostHerd you get a private server, and we set it up, secure it, update it, back it up and keep watch over it day and night. You run your website; we take care of everything underneath it.
Which websites and software can you host?
Most of what the web runs on: WordPress, Drupal, Magento, Symfony and Node.js, on Nginx or Apache, with MariaDB or PostgreSQL, Redis and Elasticsearch. We can also set up older or less common software, like legacy PHP or Ruby on Rails apps, for a one-off fee.
Where are your servers?
In EU data centres, so your data stays under EU privacy law. We also sign a GDPR data processing agreement with you.
Can you move my website from my current host?
Yes, for free, on every plan. We bring your sites over when it suits you. You keep your domain, and your email keeps working.
What happens if my website goes down?
We check your site constantly and are alerted the moment it stops responding, often before you notice. On every plan, our on-call team responds to major incidents at any hour, weekends included.
How do your backups work?
We back up your site every day and keep the copies with a different provider, so they stay safe even if your server fails. On top of the daily copies we keep weekly, monthly and yearly ones, and every month we restore a backup to prove it works.
Who will I be talking to?
Real people from our team in Europe and Japan, in English, Spanish or Catalan, on weekdays from 02:00 to 18:00 CET. At any other time an AI agent picks up your request straight away and solves common issues on its own, and our on-call team handles emergencies.
Am I tied into a contract?
No. There is no lock-in: you can leave any time.
